The Best Rehabilitation Program for You

Almost anywhere you look online these days when searching for a drug rehab you will find websites and paid advertisements all saying they have the best program. However, they can’t all be the best. So how do you know which rehabilitation program is the right one for you?

It may not be all that difficult to define, but it takes a bit of sorting out for yourself. First and foremost has to be whether or not you fully believe in the facilty’s philosophical approach to treating substance abuse and addiction.

Some more traditional rehabilitation program believe addiction is an incurable brain disease that should be treated with both counseling and pharmaceuticals. These often use a basic 12 step approach, but there are some non-12 step programs that follow this pattern as well. The mantras you’ll often hear associated with these include “once an addict, always an addict” and “relapse is a part of the recovery process.”

There are more centers these days offering different approaches though and are not based on the incurable disease theory of addiction. They are often more educational-based, use a wider array of potential spiritual and/or counseling techniques and tend to seek out healthier alternatives than prescription drugs to treat symptoms.

All centers don’t necessarily fit into one of these two categories, though, as many have unique practices. There is a growing number of methods used in the treatment of addiction today, which is a good thing for people who are looking for options. Too often people look just for the closest rehabilitation facility rather than becoming educated about the types of treatment available.

Frankly, the best program is going to be the one that seems to make the most sense to you based on your situation, factoring in things like the presence or absence of religion, degree of medical supervision, pharmaceutical-reliant or more holistic, length of time, cost and location. When you do an accurate and honest assessment of those things for yourself when searching for drug rehabs, you should be able to narrow it down to just a handful of options, which makes the choice much easier from that point on.

The honesty factor is key. If you are really going to put an end to addiction, then you have to really want to handle it and find the best facility that is going to help you accomplish that. Locating the real underlying reasons for what led you down the path of substance abuse and self destruction are the situations that need to be handled. It is not just changing habits, but actually changing the way you view yourself and other parts of life as well.
